The Ricardo Gallegos 4th Annual Cross Country Invitational

We would like to invite everyone to come support our Crystal City High School and Junior High Cross Country Runners participating in the 4th Annual Ricardo Gallegos Cross Country Invitational Meet taking place at the Crystal City Municipal Airport. The Crystal City XC Meet is named in honor of Ricardo Gallegos Sr. . Ricardo Gallegos was the first Crystal City athlete to win a Texas State Title in the mile run and also winning multiple Texas State UIL Titles. He won and set a State 2A Division record in the mile run. After finishing his Crystal City Athletic career he ran for Sul Ross State University-Lobos Track & Field Team. As a college freshman, Ricardo Gallegos had the fastest time in the nation in the mile run and the second fastest in the two-mile run. After his collegiate career he ran for the United States Army. While running for the United States Army he continued to set and break records. His name still stands in the UIL Centennial Celebration Champion Archives. His accomplishments are published in the “Texas High School Track Champions, 1905-2012” written by Dr. Wilbanks, and his athletic feats are mention in the book “Mexican Americans and Sports” written by Jorge Iber and Samuel O. Regalado. Ricardo continues to live in Crystal City, Texas and his athletic accolades are still a topic of conversation. The Ricardo Gallegos Cross Country 4th Annual Invitational Meet would not be possible without the great help of our City of Crystal City, Mrs. Santos Camarillo, Xzomara Acosta and Staff, Zavala County Sheriff Department, Deputy Jay Garcia, Sheriff Salinas, Deputy Marco Perez Mr. & Mrs. Juan Dominguez, Crystal City ISD Superintendent Ms. Imelda Salinas, Athletic Director David Lopez and Coaching Staff, CCISD Maintenance Crew & Mr. Oscar Balderas, Athletic Booster Club, SM Energy, Eduardo Serna Zavala County Attorney, Tavo’s Towing, Exclusively Edward’s, Kevin’s Café, Rebecca’s Styling Salon, Richardo’s Restaurant, Mrs. Norma Olivarez, Accounting Solutions-Alfredo Gallegos, parents and community members. The Cross Country coaching staff and student athletes would like to thank Mr. Jay Garcia and Mr. Marco Perez for all their hard work and time dedicated in making sure the XC course is in good condition for the XC Meet set for Saturday, September 2, 2017. Schedule for Races: 8:30AM Varsity Girls 5-6A & JV Boys, 9:00AM Varsity Boys 5-6A & Varsity Boy’s 4-1A, 9:30AM Varsity Girl’s 4-1A & JV Girl’s, 10:00AM 7th & 8th Grade Girl’s, and10:30AM 7th & 8th grade Boy’s. We would like to invite everyone to come and support the Crystal City Cross Country Teams. Admission is free.
