Crystal City ISD adopts new curriculum

Crystal City ISD has adopted C-SCOPE as the district’s K-12 curriculum.  It is a systemic and aligned curriculum that provides for a common language, structure and process for curriculum development and implementation.  C-SCOPE is web-based and includes a K-12 model in the core foundational areas, math, science, social studies and English Language Arts.  The curriculum matches the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) mandates for grades K-12.  C-SCOPE clarifies the TEKS and adds specificity and also includes TAKS expectations.  The 5-E model is also imbedded within C-SCOPE.  With the 5 E’s, teachers are employing within their lessons engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation.  The 5-E model is not new to the teachers at CCISD, as the district began this model years ago, stated Mrs. Allen, Curriculum & Instruction Director.  We are engaging students in their learning and are helping them think on a higher level.

There is a new expectation for how instruction is delivered to our students, stated Mrs. Allen.  This summer teachers were provided with the time, planning, and resources they need in order to be successful with this new curriculum.  Training was held for all district teachers in August and support structures will be in place to continue to assist all teachers with the implementation of C-SCOPE.

“The needs of our students today are very different than they were years ago. Today teaching and learning require new technology and new strategies”, stated Superintendent Villarreal.

C-SCOPE will provide for a new instructional delivery model through the exploring of concepts.  The goal at CCISD is to find the best tools, and the best resources that are available for our teachers so they can focus on the delivery of instruction.
