Crystal City HS Band earns Superior Rating

The Crystal City High School Mighty Javelina Band continued their winning tradition as they received a first division rating at the UIL Region XI Marching Contest held in Hondo on October 13, 2018. This marked the 42nd time during the last 44 years that MJB has earned a first division rating.  A total of 7 bands competed in Class 4-A at the U.I.L Region XI Marching Contest. Those bands included: Devine, Carrizo Springs, Hondo, Poteet, Pleasanton, Pearsall and Crystal City.  The mighty Javelina Band performed their show entitled “Revolutions.” Soloists for the show were Simon Lopez on tenor saxophone, Albertico Hernandez on trombone, Abraham Faz on trumpet, Ivy Maray Lopez on clarinet, and narrator Zachary Silvas.  Judges at the U.I.L Region XI Marching Contest included: Kyle Friesenhahn retired director from Central Texas, Richard Herrera from Northside ISD, and Robert Rubio. Judges’ Comments were as follows: Kyle Friesenhahn commented, “Good features. High energy! Lots of good things happening.  Richard Herrera’s comments were, “Good sounds by brass and woodwinds. Nice blend and balance. Strong drumline and front ensemble and wonderful soloists!” Robert Ribio’s comments were “Lots of good elements in your show.” Director Jose Luis Honstein and his assistants acknowledge the students’ many hours of hard work and preparation for this contest. The results demonstrate your pride and commitment to this organization. Your community, school district and parents are all proud of you. Congratulations on a job well done!
